Mentoring & PD

Knowledge sharing and professional development to enhance occupational therapy research and evidence-based practices in matrescence, motherhood, perinatal transitions, and women’s and girls health across the lifespan

I am so passionate about supporting OTs in practice to feel confident and proud of the professional services they are providing. During the 13 years of completing my PhD and developing a textbook, I gained an unbelievable amount of knowledge from theory and practice about how OTs work with women and families during perinatal transitions, matrescence, and motherhood, as individuals, family members, and mother-infant dyads.

Scaffolding and building scientific research into practice can be really challenging – particularly in emerging practice areas such as perinatal health, matrescence, and women’s health. I love teaching and critical reflection, and am offering mentoring to OTs working to support women’s occupational health, wellbeing, and balance across the lifespan.

From June 2023 I will be offering individual mentoring and professional development (PD) for OTs wishing to strengthen their confidence with evidence-based practice.

Dr Hannah Slootjes (PhD)

Pracademic: Occupational therapist, lecturer, researcher, writer

I am an occupational therapist with over 15 years’ experience in a wide range of practice settings.

I have extensive experience practicing with a broad range of clients in hospital, community, NFP, and private practice settings, including paediatrics, women’s health, and private practice.

In 2022, I completed a PhD with a thesis published titled: The Role of Occupational Therapists in Perinatal Health. Building on from this, I edited and co-authored textbook based on this research in 2025, titled Enhancing Women’s Wellbeing during Matrescence, Motherhood, and Perinatal Transitions. I also work part-time as a lecturer in occupational therapy at La Trobe University, Melbourne.

I also work as an OT in private practice at Berdy Occupational Therapy supporting women and girls with occupational transitions and wellbeing needs.
